ART | 'Double Quadruple Etcetera Etcetera I & II' 

Interdisciplinary artist Sondra Perry's 2013 video installation, "Double Quadruple Etcetera Etcetera I and II" is a silent, nearly 10-minute work consisting of two screens. On each, a lone performer (Danny Giles and Joiri Minaya) garbed in white engages in a furiously convulsive dance against a bright white background. Perry's work means to address the issue of historically erased bodies, and the room each of the performers is in absorbs their presence, as the silhouette of each dancer frames a jumping, shifting view of that environment. Only their hair is unaltered by the computer, moving freely in defiance of the erasure.

"Double Quadruple Etcetera Etcerta I & II" will be on view at the University of Rochester's Hartnett Gallery, 201 Wilson Boulevard, from Thursday, January 24, through Sunday, February 3.
