It's hard to be a disaffected slacker-rock band in 2018. With just about all of modern society's longest-standing institutions crumbling around us in an endless spectacle of self-immolation, who has the time to mope around town and bum cigarettes? Thankfully, when Bloomington, Indiana, upstarts Bugg sing impossibly catchy, fuzz-soaked anthems for directionless burnouts, the songs are so good that it feels like an act of defiance in itself. Think Teenage Fanclub meets the Lemonheads with just the right amount of Dinosaur Jr. worship. The world is going up in flames, so you might as well try to catch a contact high.
Bugg will play with Aretheyyestheyare, The Shine, and Moolah on Friday, March 30, at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. 8 p.m. $7. bugjar.com; turdwurld.bandcamp.com.
