Gee’s Bend is African-American hamlet in rural Alabama, as of 2010 it had a population of 275. Gee’s Bend is well known for the legendary quilters who created the vibrant quilt masterpieces that date from the early twentieth century to the present. These quilts were created from recycled work clothes and dresses, feed sacks, and fabric remnants. Janet Berlo, a professor at the University of Rochester, and quilt scholar will speak about these quilts and the people who created them.
