Personal Style Blogs and DIY Race: On Race, Aesthetics, and Capitalism This talk considers some of the most influential personal style blogs as a lens through which to examine the new construction and value of race in the age of social media. Focusing especially on the taste performances that constitute personal style blogs, the talk will demonstrate the ways in which popular bloggers like Susanna Lau (aka Susie Bubble) and Bryan Grey Yambao (aka BryanBoy) carefully craft race and with it, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class as personal vernacular style practices and choices.
