The
county Board of Elections has ruled that the candidate petitions
submitted by Jose Cruz and John Lightfoot are valid. The petitions
were challenged by Ruth Brooks-Ward, a known associate of State
Assembly member David Gantt.

Cruz
and Lightfoot are challenging the incumbent Gantt, setting up a
three-way Democratic primary for the Assembly seat.

But
Cruz and Lightfoot still face a lawsuit over their petitions.
Brooks-Ward also filed the lawsuit, which is a challenge to the
legitimacy of signatures on their petitions.

The
Board of Elections validated 1,037 signatures out of the 1,146 that
the Cruz campaign filed. And it validated 600 signatures out of the
784 that the Lightfoot campaign filed.
