MUSIC: RingoDeathstarr can’t be pinned down to a single influence.
When you listen to the band, you’ll hear them all, ranging from The Smiths to
My Bloody Valentine. The resulting sound is an amalgam that puts the Austin,
Texas, band right in line with the new wave of shoegaze
that’s been en vogue for the last few years. Though the band tends to be more
pop-centric than the genre’s forbearers, RingoDeathstarr has all the deafening hallmarks of their noise
pop contemporaries down. Check it out for yourself tonight at the Bug Jar (219

ART: Enjoy a day at the Montezuma
National Wildlife Refuge (3395 US Route 20 East, Seneca Falls), spot
migratory birds, and take in a show of work by local artists at the Montezuma
Butterfly, Dragonfly & Damselfly Art Show, which remains on view through

Eastman School of Music for The
Prismatic Debussy Festival, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth
of French composer Claude Debussy, what are you waiting for? Many of the shows

THEATER: The Space at the Hungerford Building (1115 E. Main
St., Suite 248) is hosting a staging of “Buried
Child” by Sam Shepard by Out of Pocket Productions through October 20.
The show is about a once-prosperous family which has fallen into decay, and a
mysterious grandson none of them recognizes who arrives to unearth a terrible
secret and perhaps offer redemption. You can catch a performance tonight 7:30

MUSIC: If you’re looking for some jazz in your life, Tala Vera (155 State St., tala-vera.com, $5) is putting on
a Wednesday night jazz series, this week featuring The John Arcotta Quartet. Music starts at
8 p.m., and if you can get tacos and listen to music at the same time, that’s
getting two birds with the proverbial stone.
ART: The current show at Rochester Contemporary Arts Center
(137 East Ave.) is “Me Pix:
Picturing Ourselves in Video and Photography,” a group show featuring
Ann Oren, Daniel Cosentino, Jess Levey,
Karen Y. Chan, and Stefan Petranek. Up through
November 18, you can catch it today 1-5 p.m. Admission is $1 for nonmembers.

MUSIC: Is there a better way to brighten up a work day than
getting a chance to catch some music during lunch? I don’t think so, and
Hochstein (50 N. Plymouth Ave., hochstein.org) has just the scratch for that
itch: The free weekly Live from
Hochstein series encourages people to bring bagged lunches and relax during
these noontime performances (12:10-12:50 p.m., just enough time to zip back to
work). This week features The Roberts Trio, so pack up that lunch and head
down.
MUSIC: Sure, it’s halfway through the week, but is being
this far away from the weekend still making you a little blue? You could use
that as an excuse to you know, do something about it, and head on down to Sticky
Lips (830 Henrietta Rd., stickylipsbbq.com) tonight to check out a positive
blues force. The Blues Masters will
be taking the stage. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show is free, so what reason
is there not to go?
