Busta Rhymes busts a rhyme at MusicFest

Aaayo, a’ight!

MusicFest 2006. I caught some of it, but my man jaythreeoh
caught it all. Talk to me, jay.

Jaythreeoh: Frank, if
you missed it, I got you, cuz. I
scene it, too. Yes, yes, y’all; it didn’t stop as the 12th Annual RochesterMusicFest jumped off Friday night at HighFalls,
with no slouching. Big Daddy Kane definitely
got the job done, preceded by his Juice Crew lead, DJ Marley
Marl
. Nothing less than a spark plug on stage, we peeped that Kane is still
as sharp as his flattop was in ’87. And there were no freaks out under the
humid Rochester
nightlights, as Whodinigave a healthy serving to all its
“Friends.”

Saturday’s highlights at Frontier
Field included a dancehall session from ghetto storytelling yaadmanBaby Cham, showing these new jack Americans how it’s done in Jamaica. But this country’s Idol, Ruben Studdard,
brought out the full band and those big boy, Luther-like,
Alabama chops
— smooth as velvet. Busta Rhymes shut the night down, brandishing hits to make his people wanna jump, jump.

The pace slowed down on Sunday,
as Mr. Wilson, first name Charlie, gave a show that was most
outstanding. Though he might’ve had a gap from his original band, Uncle Charlie
didn’t miss a step, cleaning up the mess made by the Brothers Hailey. K-Ci and JoJo continually noted
their North Carolina heritage; they could’ve kept their screaming down south,
as eardrums bled throughout Western New York.
But showstopper Doug E. Fresh proved
in less than 45 minutes why he’s known as The Greatest Entertainer, keeping
both young and old on their feet, doin’ the butt to
the go-go beat. All said, this year’s MusicFest was aaaayo, a’ight!
