Get ready for a flashback to the early 1990s with OFC Creations and the Lyric Theatre’s presentation of “The Bodyguard: The Musical.” In this week’s Rochester premiere of the show, New York City-based actress Devin Kessler takes on the iconic role of Rachel Marron (played by Whitney Houston in the 1992 film), singing some of the top-selling tunes of all time, including “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” and “I’m Every Woman.” Based on the romantic thriller, the musical follows a former Secret Service agent hired as a bodyguard to protect a young star from a stalker. Filled with songs that were part of the 1990s landscape (and beyond, if you’re anything like me), the unforgettable drama and music are a moving reminder of Houston’s powerful voice and stage presence.
