What type of music do you like to listen to? It really doesn’t matter much, as this year’s iteration of Bonzai probably has you covered regardless. There’s 10 Years for fans of the metal, Panic! At the Disco for the pop rockers, Dropkick Murphys for the punks and Celts, Reel Big Fish for the skanking […]

FOLK | Old-Time Fiddlers’ Fair
Now you play pretty good fiddle boy, but give the devil his due. You may not get a chance to see a fiddle of gold this weekend, but you will be able to check some fast-flying bows at one of Western New York’s largest showcases of traditional music. With four stages, more than 100 musicians, […]

JAZZ FEST 2013, Day 9: Willie reviews Marianne Trudel, Trombone Shorty
Ah. The last night of the jazz fest. That went by quick, didn’t it? First up tonight was Marianne Trudel, tinkling the ivories in the beautifully intimate Hatch Hall. I stuck around for her first song (coming in at a lengthy 15 minutes), and her soft stylistic playing was perfect for the pin-drop-quiet acoustics of […]
JAZZ FEST 2013, Day 8: Willie reviews Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers
Thanks to the luck of the spirit of jazz, my two top acts for the week both fell on the same night. Join me on my highlight night of the 2013 Jazz Fest. First up was New Orleans-based The Dirty Dozen Brass Band under the Big Tent. I’ve been wanting to see this group for […]
JAZZ FEST 2013, Day 3: Willie reviews Mike Brignola and Friends, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet
For my Sunday night at the Jazz Fest, I was back at the Rochester Club for Mike Brignola and Friends. Sometimes at the festival I have to make concessions, and even though baritone sax isn’t tuba, it still dances low enough in my range-likings to be worth checking out. But, there was just something off […]
JAZZ FEST 2013, Day 2: Willie reviews YolanDa Brown, Halie Loren Trio, Loren and Mark, and Shuffle Demons
First up for me Saturday at the 2013 Jazz Fest was the Halie Loren Trio at the Rochester Club. It’s an interesting venue (food and jazz at the same time!), and Loren’s trio fit the space well. The act created music that was more fit for the background of a conversation than it was being […]
Video Game Review: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Sometimes the title says it all. “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” for the Nintendo 3DS, is the latest entry in Nintendoโs “Animal Crossing” series, and has improved upon nearly every aspect of its predecessors, creating not only a near-perfect gaming experience, but also soaring over the bar of what I expected the game to be.
