State bails out RCSD with $35M, district will get fiscal and academic monitors

Under the deal, the district would receive a $35 million loan to help bridge its budget gap.

Governor Andrew Cuomo is set to deliver his State of the State message on Wednesday, as New York faces its worst budget deficit in a decade.

The Rochester Teachers Association said a third of city school student body could lose at least one teacher from the district’s proposed layoffs.

Teacher’s union leaders called for the board to delay its vote and to try to get extra funding from the state.

The district overspent last year’s budget and is now trying to address the deficit.

The district is attempting to address a budget gap from the last school year and trying to avoid a deficit at the end of this year.
