State of the City
ART REVIEW: “State of the City: Street-ish”
Four young artists are the stars of “Street-ish,” a show of contemporary work that is informed by street art and culture, though was created within a studio practice. Now in its sixth season, this edition of Rochester Contemporary’s “State of the City” exhibition series was co-curated by RoCo’s Executive Director, Bleu Cease, and Memorial Art […]
Art Feature: Out of place
Immediately following its annual fundraising, crowd-pleasing “6×6” exhibition, Rochester Contemporary has deftly shifted gears to present the annual “State of the City” show, during which the art space transforms into a forum for discussing the status of Upstate New York cities as they move toward an uncertain future. Duffy makes three
The teasing is over, and the campaign for Rochester mayor is under way. No Republican candidates have declared themselves, although attorney John Parinello and County Legislator Chris Wilmot have said they’re considering a run. But barring a surprise entry, the Democratic field will consist of three well-known public officials: City Councilmembers Tim Mains and Wade […]
The mess we’re in
The city of Rochester’s in crisis mode. Again. Rochester City School Superintendent Dr. Manuel Rivera announced that the district is facing a $50 million dollar budget gap. One day later, in his State of the City address, Mayor Bill Johnson said the city will have to cut funding to the schools unless it sees […]
