The Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council might release its draft Upstate Revitalization Initiative application on Wednesday.

Seven Upstate regions will compete for one of three $500 million economic development awards through the URI. Last month, the council’s consultants set August 12 as the public release date for the draft application. Once the draft is out, the council will take public comment on it.

The council has a meeting set for Wednesday, but it’s an executive session. It has a public meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19.

The council’s consultants sketched out the application’s approach during that July meeting. They said that the application will likely focus on optics, photonics, and imaging; agriculture and food production; and higher education and research. The Southwest Common Council Education Committee and the 19th Ward Community Association’s School Committee will meet tonight, Monday, August 10, to discuss “Receivership and What It Means for Community Engagement in Neighborhood Schools.”

The discussion, which will cover community engagement teams and how to establish one and the status of School 44, will be led by city school board member Mary Adams. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Arnett Branch of the Rochester Public Library, 310 Arnett Boulevard.


The Rochester school district will continue its public hearings regarding receivership of struggling and persistently struggling schools. All of the hearings will be held at the district’s central office, 131 West Broad Street.

The schedule: Monroe High School, Wednesday, August 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Northeast and Northwest high schools, Wednesday, August 12, 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.; Charlotte High School, Friday, August 14, 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; and School 22, Friday, August 14, 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Information: 262-8450.
