Music: With a name sounding a lot like a “Dick Tracy” character, Nimrod Wildfire is actually the current music outing of ex- Blue Avengers co-founder Bob Miller. With a bit of a British folk/rock feel, Nimrod Wilfire is a guitar-centric, thought-provoking, socially relevant project wrapped in deceptive simplicity. You’ll dig it. Theater: Blackfriars Theatre (795 E. Main St.) will kick off its staging of David Mamet's hilarious play, "A Life in the Theatre" tonight at 7:30 p.m. The show continues through February 10, and tickets are $17-$27 For more information, visit blackfriars.org, or call 454-1260.

Music: How can you say no to a sitar? That’s right you can’t, and shouldn’t, so head on down to Abilene (153 Liberty Pole Way, abilenebarandlounge.com) to check out Family Funktion and the Sitar Jams and its psychedelic jamming. Music starts at 10 p.m., cover runs $5-$8, and the Pat Maloney Syndrome opens the night up at 9 p.m.

Music: Boy, the month sure has gone fast, and we’ve reached the last Friday of January, which can only mean one thing: the Last Friday Jazz Heritage Series with Dr. Carl Atkins and Culture Clash. Art: The Memorial Art Gallery's Lockhart Gallery (500 University Ave.) will open a new show, "Becoming Modern: Armory Show Artists at MAG," today. The show includes artwork by artists who participated in the 1913 avant-garde Armory Art Show in New York City. The show continues through May 12; see it today 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $5-$12.
