COMEDY: Comedian and actress Wanda Sykes will perform her stand-up comedy act tonight at 8 p.m.

FILM: Tonight is opening night for the 20th ImageOut Film Festival, which will
include a screening of “Cloudburst” at the Little Theatre (240 East Ave.) at 7
p.m., and a showing of “Naked as We Came” at 9:30 p.m., also at The Little.
Both screenings are sold out, but rush tickets may be available at the door for
$12. Also tonight is the Opening Party at Tilt Nightclub & Ultralounge (444 Central Ave.), 9 p.m.-1 a.m., and includes
live musical entertainment and Tilt’s world-class drag show. The festival

FILM: Movies opening in wide release today include the
animated kiddie-horror flick “Frankenweenie” and the Liam Neeson
revenge thriller “Taken 2.” The
Dryden will feature “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “Mr. Smith Goes to

ART: The First Friday city-wide gallery trek takes place tonight, featuring a host of new art exhibit
receptions around Rochester, including “Me Pix: Picturing Ourselves in Video
and Photography” at Rochester Contemporary (137 East Ave.) and “Magnificent
Africa” at the Baobab Cultural Center (728 University Ave.). Receptions
generally take place 6-9 p.m., and most are free (RoCo asks $1 admission of

LITERATURE: Zombie expert and author of “World War Z,” Max
Brooks will share “10 Lessons for
Surviving a Zombie Attack,” followed by a book signing tonight at 8 p.m. at
Rochester Institute of Technology’s Clark Gym (Lomb Memorial Dr., Henrietta).
Admission is $6 for students, $8 for RIT faculty and staff, and $11 for the

THEATER: “Reasons to
be Pretty,” a play that tackles the complex issues
of our obsession with physical beauty, the meaning of love, and the power of
friendship, opens tonight at Tower Fine Arts Center (SUNY Brockport, 180 Holley
St., Brockport). The show takes place 7:30 p.m., and continues through October

MUSIC: I’m not sure what it is with bands and the
reoccurrence of the word “bear” in their titles lately, but Michigan-based Jack and the Bear wander in the forest
of the increasingly popular folk-rock tradition, similar to groups like Mumford
& Sons and the Avett Brothers. The group opened
up at Abilene (153 Liberty Pole Way, abilenebarandlounge.com)
 in June and now return to
headline its own show. Music starts at 6 p.m. with Watkins & The Rapiers, then Jack and company at 9:30 p.m., cover will
run you $6-$8.
MUSIC: If music is good for the soul, then is music in a church
twice as good? The Friday Jazz at
Immanuel (815 Park Ave., immanuelrochester.org) series returns, this month
bring out Tommy Gearhart and friends. The show runs 7-9 p.m., suggested
donation of $10, and who knows, maybe some musical
reconciliation on a Friday night will do you more good than you know.
MUSIC: And speaking of temples, sure, it may be a little
early in the fall for snow, but it’s never too early to check out local rock-meets-country-meets-blues
outfit Lake Effect tonight at Temple
Bar and Grille (109 East Ave., templebarandgrille.com). Head on down and grab a
drink (Friday special: all bottles only $3) and enjoy some music out on the
town before the real cold hits.
MUSIC: As part of the monthly First Friday celebrations, Bernunzio’s Uptown Music (122 East Ave., bernunzio.com) is
presenting Old Divide, a local
bluegrass band. The show is free, starts at 9 p.m., and apparently they are
also giving away free apples, so how can you say no to a First Friday like
that?
MUSIC: We love birthdays here at City, and you all should
make it out to celebrate The Lobby’s first birthday party, Neon Grey, tonight at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe Ave., bugjar.com) including
myriad awesome events. A brand new art opening, live painting, and music from
Dream Girls, Sparx & Yarms,
CammyEnaharo, BC Likes
You!, and PK will contribute to the good time, so head on down at 8 p.m., free
entry until 9 p.m., and $5-$10 after.
