SPECIAL EVENT: Learn more about the city by walking around the
massively renovated Neighborhood of the Arts with the 9th Annual Inside Downtown Tour, put on by
the Landmark Society of Western New York. Attendees will receive admittance to all the up-and coming hot spots in the
area, such as the lofts at Village Gate, the “Flatiron” Building, the Muto
Design and Axom Gallery space on Anderson Avenue, and
other locations. The tour is self-guided and runs Friday 5:30-8:30 p.m.,

THEATER: Everyone’s heard of pacifist Mahatma Ghandi, but how much do any of us know about his wife? At 8 p.m. tonight at the Multi-use
Community Cultural Center (142 Atlantic Ave.), learn about Kasturba Ghandi’s life in “Jagadamba” by RamdasBhatkal, a one-woman play in two acts. The show continues through

THEATER: Experience a revue of some classic musical greats with
Cindy Miller’s “You Ain’t
Heard Nothin’ Yet!” at 8 p.m. in Downstairs Cabaret Theatre’s location
at 3450 Winton Place. For $25 you’ll hear Miller perform tunes by Judy Garland,
Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, and others. This week the show also runs

FILM: New films opening in wide release today include the
animated coemdy “Hotel Transylvania,” the time-travel action thriller “Looper,” the inspiring education-reform
film “Won’t Back Down,” and musical
comedy “Pitch Perfect.” The Dryden
Theater (900 East Ave.) is showing “Compliance.” The Little Theatre (900 East Ave.) will debut “Cosmopolis.”
MUSIC: Get ready to walk down the red carpet for the 90th
season opening night of the Rochester
Philharmonic Orchestra. The RPO starts off the season with the bang from a
sergeant’s gun: Sgt. Pepper, that is. Joined by the Classical Mystery Tour, which
will be performing in tribute to the 45th anniversary of The Beatles’ “Sgt.
Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album,” the RPO will also be starting the
season off in style with its red-carpet spectacular dinner and carpet walk, as
well as a post-concert party for ticket holders. Beatles costumes are optional
(but we know you still have those coattails ready anyways). The show runs
Friday and Saturday at Kodak Hall (rpo.org), 8 p.m., and tickets run $15-$94.
MUSIC: Luke Weiler is an eccentric
multi-instrumentalist, philanthropist, singer-songwriter, and the sole member
of Positive Mental Trip. Weiler, who hails from the Catskills, has reinvented the
idea of mountain music by injecting it with solid rhythms, an electro-folkie
spirit, and neo-psychedelic nuance. PMT’s upbeat jams have been influenced by a
census of sounds, including funk, reggae, punk, tribal, southern Rock,
classical, ragtime, blues, and polka, just to name a few. Check him out for
yourself tonight at Dubland Underground (315
Alexander St.), 9:30 p.m., price $7.
MUSIC: There’s just something that hits the heartstrings
when you combine my two loves in life: video games and music. Roc_Chip takes
the best of both worlds. Guitars, drums, and rock and roll are combined it with
Game Boys, Nintendos, and all the beeps, blips, and
melodic 8-bit tones you could want. Tonight’s show at the Bug Jar (219 Monroe
Ave., bugjar.com) features Animal Style, B.C. Likes You!, Fowls, and SBthree-so get ready to rock it old school video game
style. Music starts at 9 p.m., tickets cost a low
$5-$7.
MUSIC: Want to use your Friday night to stomp and holler and
have a good time? Head on down to Abilene (153 Liberty Pole Way,
abilenebarandlounge.com) to see the bluegrass jug jamming of the Ruckus Juice Jug Stompers. An opening
band will kick things off at 6, and the Stompers will start, well, stomping at
9:30 p.m., entry only $4-$6. Just make sure to wear some tough-soled shoes.
MUSIC: What is music but a mirror to ourselves,
our own identity, our own experiences? Bridging several different musical
worlds, Your Own Reflection will be
playing tonight at Water Street (204 N. Water St., waterstreetmusic.com) at
6:30 p.m., tickets only $10. Inneriot will be opening
up, so come down and take a look in the musical mirror and hope you like what
you see.
