My list of rules for everyone heading out to the East End the night before Thanksgiving, one of the
biggest party nights of the year:
1. Ladies, cover up — we live in the tundra of Rochester, New York,
and there’s a good chance you’ll be standing in line for a good amount of time.
Goose bumps, frost bite, and hearing you whine about how fucking cold it is: not hot.
2. Gentlemen, please offer scantily clad ladies your coat before
whining and frostbite set in.
3. Please have a drink before you go out (and find a DD while you’re
at it!). Since the chances of making it to the bartender are slim to none, thinking
ahead will relieve possible tantrums and make everyone happier and more
attractive.
4. Since you’re probably not getting laid with a beautiful
stranger (most people are staying with mom and dad tonight), stick to your
childhood crushes and friends. Added bonus: their folks won’t be surprised to
see you in the morning, and you’ll have a ride home.
For those of you taking the plunge, here are the places to be on
the biggest night of the year:
There are two new bars slated to open on Thanksgiving Eve,
November 22: The Dub Land Underground and Vinyl. Tom O’Callaghan, owner of
O’Callaghan’s on Monroe,
is the owner of DubLand, which is replacing Whiskey on Alexander Street. The venue will be host
to tons of music, including a reggae party on Thursday nights, dance and
hip-hop on Fridays, live bands on Saturdays, and Sundays will be open for your
karaoke pleasure. DLU is open from Wednesdays through Fridays 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.;
Saturdays and Sundays 7 p.m.-2 a.m.
Vinyl opens its doors at
291 Alexander St.
for the first time Wednesday, November 22, and the word is that it will regularly
feature DJs spinning ’80s and ’90s tunes.
For those of us who don’t want to head to A-street or the East End,
the St. Paul district has much to offer as well, including the always-packed Tapas and a new
dance club in that area with sweet DJs, Venu; stay tuned for details on it next week.
