The KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival will begin accepting
submissions to its 2017 edition on Saturday, April 1. The submission period
opens at 9 a.m. and runs through 11:59 p.m. on April 30, and will only be
accepted online at backstage.rochesterfringe.com.
The
multi-arts Fringe — this year’s dates are September 14 through September 23 — is
open to theater, comedy, dance, music, musical theatre, children’s
entertainment, and really any combination of genres.
A hallmark
of the Fringe has been its out-of-the-box ideas: past festivals have included theater
pieces performed within cars (with the audience in the back seat);
street-storytelling where performers wander among the crowd; a horror
film-inspired, satirical, acoustic rock opera; and an existential dance program
performed inside the Strasenburgh planetarium.
There is no fee
to apply, and no limit to the number of productions that an artist or organizer
may submit for consideration, but once a venue confirms a deal with a
particular show pitch, a registration fee (ranging from $50 to $150) will be
required.
