It may seem like winter has returned today, but this weekend
promises sunnier days and a bit more warmth. So don’t sink back into
hibernation mode, get out and grab some culture. Here are a few highlights to

Oxford Gallery (267
Oxford Street) opens a new group show, “The Condition of Music,” on Saturday,
April 25. The title is derived from a dictum by Victorian essayist Walter
Pater: “All art constantly aspires toward the condition of music.” The exhibit
features more than 50 Rochester and regional artists, each of whom were invited
to interpret the relationship between music and the visual arts. Participating
artists created paintings of instruments, portraits of musicians, and abstractions
of sound waves. The show remains on view through June 6, and a reception will
be held Saturday, May 9, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday through
Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information,

You may have been wondering what the Arts & Cultural
Council has been up to since a financial crisis resulted in closing
the doors of the North Goodman Street location last spring, a partnership
with RAPA, and the subsequent move of ACC HQ to Kodak Center for Performing
Arts. This week, the council announced the launch of a new satellite exhibition
space, Gallery 384, in collaboration
with East Avenue Inn & Suites (384 East Avenue). The inaugural exhibit in
the new space, featuring oil and acrylic paintings by Paula Crawford and Wendy Menzie, opens Sunday, April 26, with a reception held 2 to
4 p.m. The work will remain on display through Memorial Day (May 25). Artist
