Following what I considered a lackluster showing from Microsoft, Sony at least came to E3 a little more prepared. The company may not have shown off as much or as many different non-gaming ideas as Microsoft did, but what was shown was certainly more impressive. Taking a bold risk that paid off, Sony opened the […]

E3 2012 Day 1: Microsoft Conference
Microsoft didn't start the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo (a.k.a. E3) on quite the note I had hoped. I feel like I could have guessed my way through the company's entire conference. It didn't really throw any surprise punches, though there were a few big game announcements nonetheless. There was a big focus on multimedia this […]
Video Game Review: Mario Tennis Open
Iโve never really gotten along with tennis. Ask my high school gym teacher: He made an effort to catch the comedy hour that was my group’s attempt to keep the ball in play and get a volley going.
Perhaps that’s why I have fond memories of playing “Mario Tennis.” It counted as playing a sport, right? But, “Mario Tennis: Open,” the 3DS offering, feels a little light on the Mario, and isnโt the ace I had hoped for.
โThe Walking Deadโ Season 2, Episode 13: Great Balls of Fire
Cheers all around: Weโve finally left the freaking farm. Of course, it took an entire horde of walkers to make it happen. Apparently one gunshot attracted all those walkers, or the herd followed them from Atlanta, but either way, a giant wave of walkers overran the farm, taking a few characters with them.
Video Game Review: Kid Icarus Uprising
Not since Retro Studios rebooted the dormant โMetroidโ franchise has a seemingly lost Nintendo series been reinvented with such care, craft, and charm. Itโs been 20 years since gamers have seen Pit and the โKid Icarusโ series, and โKid Icarus: Uprisingโ has not only redefined the series, but has given gamers one of the best original Nintendo titles on the 3DS yet.
FEATURE: The geek guide to Rochester
Let’s be honest: Rochester is a pretty geeky city. Everybody knows about The Strong’s National Museum of Play, which currently sits on various national lists as a must-see geek destination, especially with its burgeoning International Center for the History of Electronic Games.
“The Walking Dead” Season 2 Episode 12: Whoโs your daddy?
Another main character dead.A twist in the very development of how people become walkers.A character confrontation that has been building since the very start of the show. And yet, I canโt get into the episode as a whole.
“The Walking Dead” Season 2, Episode 11: Heโs a threat!
Oh man. It took right up until the end, but Jesus tap-dancing Christ, everything managed to came full circle and end on such an intense note. Wow. This is why I love โThe Walking Dead.โ
A kick-ass rock and roll show
The Boston punk scene has given us many great bands over the years, and Far From Finished is another testament to Beantownโs mighty musical legacy. This weekend the band is opening for The Queers and The Ataris at the Bug Jar, bringing to the stage nearly 10 years of road-tested songs and experience. City recently spoke with Steve Neary, one of the founding members and vocalist for the group. Below is an edited transcript of the interview.
Gypsies, tramps, and Thieves
As the adage goes, it takes a village to raise a child. But for the musical offspring of Fuzz and Carrie Sangiovanni, it took a caravan. It started as a love story. Carrie was living in Burlington, Vermont, and Fuzz just came up and said hello. That one hello must have been enough: five months later the couple was engaged, and the two started making music a month after that.
“The Walking Dead” Season 2, Episode 10: 18 miles down the road, the farms that way
Not quite the wrenching follow up to last weekโs killer episode, but โThe Walking Deadโ took a much slower, though somewhat overdue, look at the constantly strained relationships within the group.
“The Walking Dead” Season 2, Episode 9: Guiding Light (But with more blood!)
And just when you think a show canโt shock you, โThe Walking Deadโ returned with some much needed gusto. The two situations from last week that had run dry really pulled through, creating some down right awesome moments for the show.
