Asheville-based Woody Pines embraces antique influences that are rare to hear today, such as Cab Calloway, Frank Lemon, and Johnny Mercer. As a result, his music has a distinctive, vintage charm to it. While his sound is indeed unique, Pines and his band rarely stick to one genre, and instead present listeners with a wide variety of sounds, ranging from ragtime, to “lightning speed folk,” to old country blues. Pines’ music is lively and soulful, capturing a period of music history that is long gone, but clearly not forgotten.
