Elusive Travel

‘Sounds of Oppari’

Self-released

reverbnation.com/elusivetravel

Metal-gaze trio
Elusive Travel began in 2000, led by singer-guitarist Chris Dalcin. Now with
bassist Matt Roselli and drummer Cory Olcott, the band unleashes a head-banging
thrill ride of pulsing, heavy rock music mixed with post-metal, shoegaze, and
doom on “Sounds of Oppari.” Dive into crashing sonic waves in “Shiva”
or the deep, dark ocean of existential crises in “December Lies.” “Art
Of Letting Go” is a sigh of atmospheric relief as
it washes over you.

Spacious vocal
melodies are stuttered by trudging instrumental breakdowns, keeping you in
anticipation of the explosive dynamic contrasts. Dalcin has a scratchy baritone
voice that effectively transitions from dreamy melodies to harsh screams, using
poetic imagery in the lyrics to deliver his messages. “Sounds Of Oppari” evokes the feeling of breaking through the
guilt and shame of your past, and surrendering to the future to come out
stronger in the end.

Elusive Travel’s CD
release show, with special guests Blurring and 137, is
on Friday, May 10, 9 p.m. at Photo City Improv, 543 Atlantic Avenue. $8. All ages. 541-0047.
