Don't let the ukulele fool you: Sam Nitsch is a classically trained violinist and a skilled multi-instrumentalist who has participated in youth orchestras and chamber ensembles. Nitsch, a Penfield native, spent last year working on his new album, "Conscience," while attending the Berklee College of Music.

"Little Girl," the first single off "Conscience," is an innocent love-ballad for a teenage crush. Nitsch wrote the song in one day — he performs all the parts except for the drums — but the recording took several months as Nitsch searched Boston area churches to find instruments like the marimba to use in the tune.

"Little Girl" begins with a McCartney-esque electric piano riff that blends with several acoustic instruments then quickly dissolves into an a cappella-like arrangement with finger snap percussion. Once the drums and bass line kick in, the instruments come back to drive the tune toward a chorus that has Nitsch doing his own background vocals. Nitsch's voice fills your ears with honey and the result is a squeaky-clean summer romance that recalls classic soft rock with its light-hearted approach.
