Baltimore duo Wye Oak takes its moniker from the honorary state tree of Maryland, a 460-year-old white oak that was destroyed in a thunderstorm in 2002. The pairโs melodic noise pop might not share that namesakeโs longevity, but the band emulates its constant growth with each subsequent release; the most recent album, last yearโs โCivilian,โ found the pair at its most urgent and accessible, with the title track being used on the soundtracks to multiple television shows and movies. Brooklyn band Callers, as well as Rochesterโs own Archimedes, open the show.
Wye Oak performs Tuesday, September 18, 8 p.m. at the Bug Jar | 219 Monroe Ave. $10-$12. 454-2966, bugjar.com.
