UPDATE: The next batch of absentee ballots has been counted and Slaughter is, so far, holding on to her lead. As of 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, Slaughter leads Assini 95,289 to 94,638. That’s a difference of 651 votes, which means that Slaughter has extended her ever-so-slight lead. Another batch of absentees won’t be counted until next week. But the numbers are apparently good enough for Slaughter, who, moments ago, sent out a statement declaring victory.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Late last night, the Monroe County Board of Elections posted the unofficial absentee ballot counts and with those figures considered, Democratic House Representative Louise Slaughter still has a very narrow lead over her Republican challenger, Mark Assini.

After the poll results were reported last night, Slaughter had a 582 vote lead over Assini. She earned 93,053 votes to Assini’s 92,471. Slaughter picked up another 1,198 votes from absentee ballots, and Assini grabbed another 1,175 votes. So Slaughter, at this point, has 94,251 total votes to Assini’s 93,646.

But a significant number of absentee ballots haven’t yet been counted, though how many is unclear. WXXI reports that there were 3,000 to 4,000 absentee ballots, and that only 56 percent have been counted. And the Democrat and Chronicle says that there are 2,800 uncounted ballots.

And over the next few days, some additional absentee ballots may come in. As long as the ballots are postmarked by November 3 and arrive at the board’s office by November 12, they’ll be counted. Similar rules apply for military ballots, though they’ll be counted as long as they are postmarked by November 3 and arrive by November 17.

  1. Wow, terrible that it is so close but this is a very blue disstrict.

So Slaughter’s 1mln$ in money against Assini’s ~150k$ tells a brutal tale; the people have indeed spoken and we want big government statists to be shown the door.

I sure hope the GOP has good monitors watching this absentee count.

And as for the recount, let this not be just like the almost certainly fraudulent Franken win.

If there is anyone in the house that needs to go, it is Slaughter. This would be a great defeat for the conservative that wants to see the constitution restored!

“U.S Constitution, Article I, Section VII, Clause II.

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively… “

Obamacare is unconstitutional, thanks in large part to this detestable power grabbing “representative”.

  2. Does anyone at this “news” paper actually do any of their own reporting?

    “WXXI reports…”

    “the Democrat and Chronicle says…”

Is anyone at City doing any work themselves? I’m better off just looking to any other coverage in Rochester, since apparently that’s good enough for the City news department…

  3. A constitutional originalist / anonymous cut-paste-tea-partier has a point about money in politics, but I find it ironic that the people who shout loudest about the constitution turn a blind eye toward GOP voter suppression in the name of stopping non-existent “voter fraud”. – Matt (actual name)

  4. “people who shout loudest about the constitution turn a blind eye toward GOP voter suppression”

You cannot support that assertion with evidence.

Yet voter fraud is well known and documented.

I will present my evidence when I see yours.

  5. Louise should wait another several days before declaring victory…she has had enough time and effort in Congress ( 15 terms ). It is time for new ideas and to give someone else a chance to do some good. At 85 years old and just loosing her husband it is time to step aside. I will say it because Assini was smart enough not to make it an issue. But it is the reason I voted for Assini just as many other conservative democrats and moderate republicans did yesterday. I also voted for him because he is the only candidate that did not “sling mud” but did present some facts that were somewhat important to voters. I met Mark at a Committee Meeting in Henrietta, NY. Mark is asking for the Casino in Gates as Town Supervisor… but will he get the support from fellow board members ? I would rather have seen or met another candidate but he was the only other choice. And, 93,000 other voters felt the same way in his district. I also tried to meet with Louise and her Chief of Staff this summer and she did not have time for me on an important issue facing Rochester concerning safety for our young people. Bob Duffy was going to attend but no one else from the City or County would attend. What does that tell me about politics… I give everything and should not expect anything in return.

  6. I support Louise Slaughter and her age has nothing to do with the fact nor losing her husband has anything to do with her ability and experience to serve. I don’t care that she has been 15 terms in service and in fact I like that she has that much experience. You vote for reasons that are shallow and I will tell you this I had Louise personally call my home and talk to me when I had a problem and she did everything to help. Louise was not always a big Politician as you say and I still remember her at Wegman’s and the public market talking to people. She worked her way up to a higher position though her experience. I don’t need a Republican Assini to be my Congressman. I want Louise Slaughter for as long as she can be a Congresswoman. She is a wonderful woman who acts and helps and full of compassion. I know because I had the pleasure of meeting her. I hope Louise Slaughter pulls this off. The whole Country is not happy and that is why GOP won so many Blue states. I’m rooting for Louise Slaughter.

  7. Keep rootin’ tootin’ Katie…but it is what it is !!! And, it is not shallow to me…only to you. We shall see in about 6-7 days. Louis is also unobtainable and not very easy to get in touch with as I know from personal experience. 85 years old of age is too old to serve properly.Louise had her chances over 15 terms. Now it is time for change…I can see you do not like change but change is coming. Also, I hold close the values of both parties and vote on the candidate and their ideas for change…not the same old, same old things… that Louise has championed over the years. And. loosing a spouse has a great , far reaching impact on any person’s ability to serve you , me and the rest of the district. Have you lost a loved one ? I have lost a few and it hurts for a long , long time. Time to accept defeat and retirement… move on down the road. Make way for a better Upstate, NY Congressional District.

  8. Having Louise Slaughter as our representative is one of the many things that make me proud of Rochester. I am so grateful that she is willing to continue serving us during this difficult time.

  9. I’ve listened to Mark Assini. He’s got some political skills, but as far as I’m concerned, Louise Slaughter can keep representing me. Suggesting that Slaughter is too old is an insult to both candidates. Assini did well based on his attributes. Age has nothing to do with it.

  10. –Attention; I have posted this earlier and it seems to be getting deleted by you. What is the problem with this post, other than it is speaking poorly to the Democrat party and its policies. What is wrong with that? I wasn’t aware that this forum was a ‘Democrat Only’ group. Are you so afraid of criticism and people with alternate viewpoints, that your only recourse is to delete the information? There are no personal attacks in this message, this is not spam or something that contains offensive language, that is unless you find the truth offensive.

    — Oh and this is post #2 after you censored me. Coward is it then? Man up dude.

Look I am open to debate on any issue, I am willing to be fact checked and engage with honest and intelligent people. But deleting posts that you do not like seems rather unfair now doesn’t it? That is not honest, in fact it’s rather cowardly. Come on, if you truly believe in your ideaology then go ahead and step up and respond to my points with your own argument.

The fact that my post gets deleted only buttresses my point that you have no argument at all, and this forum, and this online news outlet is in truth nothing but state run propoganda!

Go on, prove me wrong. Leave this up and act like honest men, or delete the post and then prove yourself to be nothing but

“Having Louise Slaughter as our representative is one of the many things that make me proud of Rochester. I am so grateful that she is willing to continue serving us during this difficult time.”

What exactly is so difficult? If it wasn’t for the government taxing business out of profitability, government regulation cleaning up the ones that remain, detestable laws being written and passed that violate the constitution, border secutity being non existent and our enemies bieng emboldened by our leadrs feckess disregard for our safety, everything would be fine.

All of these things brought to you by your Democrat party and their enalers, the RINOS in power.

And your champion is Slaughter? What has she ever done but enrich herself and her peers on the backs of those who work and produce in this economy? Oh and I note you produce no evidence or even an argument, all you have to present is “I like her”. Well based on what? Do you have the ability to think critically or are you just marching in lock step with all the rest of the Democrat sheeple? Think for yourselves!

You are enslaved by your ignorance if you find anything of value in the Democrat party, the party of the KKK being the paramilitary arm of the Democrats. How the civil rights acts of the 60s were advocated by Republicans for years and thwarted by Democrats. And George Wallace and Bull Connor being Democrats, while Martin Luther King was a fervent Republican….I wonder how things might shake out if it were widely known how much of what kids are taught in schools was total crap….

  11. Sorry Mike…but I wholly and respectfully disagree…just go out there and ask 25 people randomly about age and Louise Slaughter if you dare. But thank you for your opinion. And, in my opinion, it is not an insult to anyone except you and Katie. I know for a fact that Assini was thinking the same thing about age and Louise, as well as 93,000 other voters in the District, but was skilled enough not to make an issue out of age as it would have brought him less votes. That is the difference… the truth can sometimes hurt especially if a person is 85 years old. I will, in 27 years, be 85 years old if I make it to that age. And, I surely would not be holding another person back from trying his / her hand in Congress just because I have served the district for 15 terms ( 20 years ) Time to retire gracefully Louise…as painful as it may be. It is time Louise to be with one’s Great Grand Children. However, she may win this election yet…but she is no friend of mine by not helping me with a problem in her district that her and her chief of staff are more than aware of in Rochester. Same goes for Lovely too… time to retire.

  12. When are you folks going to understand that both political parties are doing it wrong? Blindly following Slaughter (who is more than happy to toe the party line regardless of what her constituents actually want) is NOT good practice! You can try to make the argument that your favorite party is the lesser of two evils for whatever reasons are important to you, but when will you finally realize that there are OTHER options out there?

A third party or (even better) an independent who has no obligation to toe a party line is the GOOD to counteract the two evils that are popular today. There was a third candidate for congress in our district, Tim Dean, but no one bothered to research and vote for him because his name was not on the ballot.

Stop drinking the Republican/Democrat Kool-Aid and think for yourselves!! Vote for someone else for once!

  13. Dear Ac Superstar… I did vote for Howie Hawkins. And, I do not drink the kool-aid of any party. I vote for the candidates that have the best ideas… that are wise, during their campaign, to not promise anything; yet… do the proper things ,while in office, that fairly represent the majority but respect the minority.

  14. Craig (crm135790),

I think it is safe to say that people like you and I are in the minority in this state (and all around the country, for that matter). My comment was focused towards the low information voters among us, but thanks for doing your part and thinking for yourself!
