The rumors are true: the City of Rochester is getting a grocery store in the East End.
The name of the new store as well as other details are being kept under wraps until a 10 a.m. press conference tomorrow — Friday, January 10.
But reliable sources say it will be a local — meaning, not a chain — privately owned store that gets much of its product from the local community.
The full-service grocery store will be located at 10 Winthrop Street in the former Craig Autometrics building. The owner of Craig Autometrics has retired and the business is closed.

“Reliable sources say it will be a local — meaning, not a chain — privately owned store that gets much of its product from the local community.” Cool.
10 bucks says since it’ll be in the East End in a relatively small space it’s a low volume high price organic/gluten-free/specialty store for yuppies and not the general store downtown actually needs. But I’d love to be proven wrong today.
I will miss Craig Autometrics.
