Daniel Lowengard, the interim superintendent who led city schools following the departure of former superintendent Bolgen Vargas, is returning to the district for a second time as interim. Linda Cimusz will be his chief of staff.

Lowengard and Cimusz will start on February 1, 2019. Lowengard was hired to temporarily take over for Vargas in January 2016, but he suffered from a stroke shortly afterward and Cimusz took over. The two worked together in the Syracuse school district prior to coming to Rochester.

Cimusz served as interim until Barbara Deane-Williams was hired. Deane-Williams is leaving at the end of January six months prior to the end of her contract.

In the meantime, the Rochester school board has agreed to hire a search firm to find a permanent superintendent.
