Mothers Out Front will rally in front of the Federal Building, 100 State Street, at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, in memory of the 48 victims of the 2013 oil train derailment and explosion in Lac-Megantic, Quebec. The disaster also destroyed 30 buildings in the small communityโ€™s downtown.

The rally is meant to draw attention to the destructive potential of hauling crude oil from the Bakken Shale by rail. Since 2013, 11 oil trains have derailed and exploded, with the most recent incident happening on June 3 in Mosier, Oregon.

Mothers Out Front wants Congress to pass a ban on transporting oil by rail.
