Ninety-two percent of readers responding to a Rochester Business Journal poll said they prefer Tom Richards for Rochester mayor over possible challenger Lovely Warren. Warren, who is president of City Council, is weighing a primary challenge to Richards, the incumbent. Richards announced his intention to seek re-election earlier this week.

About 740 readers participated in the RBJ poll, which was conducted February 4 and February 5.
The poll asked two questions: should Richards run again (he hadn’t announced at that point), and whom do you favor, Richards or Warren? Eighty-nine percent of poll respondents said they wanted Richards to run again.
It’s important to keep in mind, though, that the RBJ caters to a more affluent, business-oriented readership — which is in sync with Richards’ background as a lawyer and business executive.

“It’s important to keep in mind, though, that the RBJ caters to a more affluent, business-oriented readership — which is in sync with Richards’ background as a lawyer and business executive.”
The RBJ also caters to Rpublicans. And considering that Richards is a Democrat-in-name-only it’s hardly a surprise that he did so well in this poll.
That’s like going to a union hall and asking do you prefer Obama or Romney. Totally meaningless poll, especially considering RBJ’s readership is not in the City.
One of my friends held a picnic last summer to celebrate his son’s bar mitzvah. I can report that a poll of hot dog eaters determined that over 99% chose red hots over white hots.
92% is a good over and under number on the percent of RBJ respondents who would not be eligible to vote in a Democratic Primary in the City of Rochester. C’mon Chris- can’t believe you would give that “poll” any credence. Guess we know who you are pulling for.
Yeah this poll is skewed completely away from the political reality of the city of Rochester. Most voters (suburb or city) don’t read RBJ on a daily basis anyway. The first RBJ poll of the Brooks-Slaughter race in March had Brooks at 59%, Slaughter at 41%. One in six poll respondents admitted they could vote in that election anyway. And the sampling of the poll was wait for it: 37% Republican, 31% blank and only 27% Democratic. The actual district demographics are: 59.4% Democratic, 40.6% Republican. Obama won in ’08 by 18.5 pts. Slaughter won last year by 14 points. So I would be very skeptical of any poll RBJ puts out. They would have had to swing it by an average of sixteen points to be accurate.
The City of Rochester is so fortunate to have Tom Richards as its Mayor. Tom doesn’t need the job. He is a long time city resident who is giving back to his city, in terms of quality leadership and positive direction. His background is business, but his Dad was a minister who taught him well.
The contrast of performance between Tom and former but still want to be Mayor, Bill Johnson is amazing.
