Following up on the December arts funding meeting held by the Arts & Cultural Council of Greater Rochester and members of City Council, Councilmember Elaine Spaull will host another public meeting on the topic on Wednesday, January 16.
The meeting, which will take place at 4 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, is open to all arts organizations and individual artists who would like to attend and continue the discussions sparked at the last meeting, Spaull says.
Participants at this weekโs meeting will review the shared goals expressed by a variety of members of the arts community, Spaull said in a press release. โThose who attended the December meeting were offered the opportunity to continue to be involved,โ she said. โHowever, others are always welcome to attend.โ

Perhaps Ms. Spaull will finally explain why, after the Memorial Art Gallery hired the notorious dog killer, Tom Otterness, to create sculptures for their Centennial Garden, she did not do the moral thing and resign from the MAG board? It’s thugs like Otterness who help put modern art in disrepute and make it more difficult for legitimate artists to obtain public funding.
