House Representative John Lewis, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will be among the speakers at Louise Slaughter’s funeral. They’ll join Slaughter family and friends, says a press release from the late House representative’s office.

The public service will happen at 11 a.m. Friday at Kodak Hall in Eastman Theatre. The public can enter the theater from the East Main Street entrance, and seating is limited.

For those not attending the funeral, a number of downtown streets will be closed down. Slaughter’s office says the closures will be similar to what happens during the Jazz Festival:

  • Starting late Thursday night, Swan Street and Gibbs Street will be closed;
  • East Main Street between Chestnut Street and Scio Street will be closed by 7 a.m. Friday.

Parking information is available on the Eastman Theatre’s website.

This afternoon, Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced that Amtrak will rename the Rochester train station to the Louise M. Slaughter Intermodal Station in Rochester.

  1. I’m looking forward to everyone coming to pay homage to Ms. Slaughter. except for Ms. Clinton. Ms. Clinton made all of our lives harder by running a poor campaign. Now we all have to put up with the loud, brash, unprofessional jerk as President. But, I will be anxiously awaiting to pay my respects. RIP Ms. Slaughter and thank you for everything.

  2. Louise Slaughter was so kind and helpful to me as a young engineer entering public service. I remember her warmly and remain sad that, having returned to Rochester, I now will not be able to restore that relationship. R.I.P., Congresswoman.
