Urban action

This week’s calls to citizenship include the
following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless
otherwise noted.)

• First
Unitarian Church will show another in its Reality of War film series, “My
Country, My Country” by Laura Poitras, at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 18, at the
church, 220 South Winton Road. The award-winning film follows the daily
routines of a physician and father of six children living in Baghdad under US occupation.

• The
Federation of Monroe County Environmentalists will sponsor a program on “Wind Energy: Environmental Benefits
and Hazards,” at 7:15 p.m. Monday, January 22, at First Baptist Church, 1862
Penfield Road. Mark Denecke of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Regional Planning
Council and Bruce and Mary Ann Cady of the Rochester Birding Association are
the speakers.

• Rochester
NOW will sponsor a Roe v Wade 34th
anniversary program at 7 p.m. Monday, January 22, at First Unitarian Church,
220 South Winton Road. Co-sponsors are First Unitarian and Planned Parenthood.
Among the speakers: Marcia Pappas, president of NOW, New York.

• The
Rochester chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a “Legislative Night” program from 6:30 to
9 p.m., Monday, January 22, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 111 North Chestnut
Street downtown. Alliance staff members will present the organization’s 2007
legislative agenda and discuss lobbying strategies for more funding for
mental-illness treatment.
