One of the two remaining defendants in a bid-rigging trial involving two county-linked local development corporations, will be in court on Wednesday to discuss a possible plea deal, rep orts the Democrat and Chronicle.

Nelson Rivera, former county information services director, oversaw the contract for the Upstate Telecommunications Corporation LDC and helped develop plans that led to the creation of the Monroe Security and Safety Systems LDC.

Local development corporations are quasi-governmental entities formed to perform specific tasks for governments; in this case, they handled computer and office equipment upgrades and public safety communications systems upgrades, respectively.

Two other defendants have already taken plea deals. Robert Wiesner, husband of former County Executive Maggie Brooks, pleaded guilty to a single felony charge last week. By taking the plea, he avoided jail time and will pay $8,000 in fines and forfeitures.

John Maggio, an accountant for the firm hired to run both local development corporations, previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and will be sentenced in the spring. He has also agreed to cooperate with and testify for the state Attorney General’s Office, which is prosecuting the bid-rigging case.

Whether the other remaining defendant, Daniel Lynch, has a plea deal in the works is unknown at this point. BY JEREMY MOULE

  1. I would politely disagree. We just need to take control. That control is clearly evident when you look at the front-runners in the presidential race. The establishment, the business as usual people, the professional politician is running scared. And they are still asking themselves how this is possible. The disconnect is stunning and at some point,…..lets hope its near.

Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean the world is out to get you. OK, maybe it does. Bernie Sanders and all of his little socialist/communist minions need to have their foil hats adjusted.
