These distinct voices offer windows into our week: poet laureate Joy Harjo’s powerful celebrations of and mourning for the Muscogee Creek Nation and all native peoples, expat poet Jack Gilbert’s direct yet lush lyrics of love and dying, Portuguese poet Gemma Gorga’s enigmatic tiny prose poems, Austin Smith’s elegant and dignified poems capturing American farm life, and Connie Wanek’s exquisite observations married to matters of the heart. Each poet shows us how our days matter. Copies of the poetry hand- out will be available at the circulation desk. No registration required.

The tourist industry offers many trails to explore, but we’ll help you craft your own journeys through this scenic section of New York State.

For Grades K-12. For every three books you read, you are entitled to enter the county-wide Amerks contest. Two grand prize-winners (one for grades K-5, one for grades 6-12) will receive box tickets to a February, 2020 Amerks game, a catered dinner in the President’s Lounge at the Blue Cross Arena that evening, and the chance to participate in the ceremonial dropping of the puck! The more you read, the more chances you have to win. Look for entry boxes near the teen area in late November.

Awareness and some preparation can make a big difference in a dangerous situation. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes and come ready to learn new skills. Registration required.
