This is what people realky find to be Rochester’s best? Very sad…
With the exception of Rocco this list does not show any signs of progression in the Rochester food culture.
Got any suggestions? This is a poll, so the way those work is by giving a general idea of what many people like. If lots of people like a place, it usually wins. If lots of people like a place, it can’t be that terrible. I can’t really argue with most of these selections, although I find Jines to be very overrated and that the Public Market’s various food stands to be the best breakfast spot.
Hahvahd St, I agree with what you say…this is a poll that represents what people like, I’m just surprised that this is what people like! I also agree that Jines is overrated…I never understood the love that people had for it, and admittedly I still don’t. The food trucks at the Public Market are amazing! Hello Arepa makes the most amazing breakfast arepas…they are fun, and different. How about Flour City Diner for brunch? Napa Wood Fired Pizza is the best we can do for pizza? Check out Fiamma…kills Napa. Best Sushi California Rollin’? Really?? Where’s Nikko? Where are places like Good Luck for appetizers,? Is anyone getting my drift? We are such a culture of comfort here in Rochester. We have tons of new, innovative and progressive restaurants opening here in Rochester, but we still say that Mark’s Pizza is the best….Jay’s Diner…..Palmer’s???….it’s sad to see!! I could go on and on, but I won’t. See, now I’m all worked up…
I disagree with Salena’s being the best Mexican. I had my hopes up for the food being great just from the rave reviews I’d gotten from friends, but when I finally went for dinner the food was very bland and overall meh for the price. The cheap “mom and pop” style places (Los Gallos, Monte Alban) have the best food.
Best Diner where you at?
What happened to Best Dessert and Best Asian restaurant? I remember these categories being on the ballot…
Nefret: Those categories were in the 2011 Best of Rochester Poll, but were not in the 2012 version. But never fear, they may return next year.
I really wish there were more than one in each category. Why not show who won 2nd, 3rd, maybe a few honorable mentions? Also, I’m surprised that none of the restaurants display a badge of some sort on their website that they won Best of Rochester. Seems like something they’d want to brag about. If I was behind the marketing for this I’d make sure each restaurant had a badge to display proudly on their website and a plaque to hang in their restaurant. http://www.ct.com/entertainment/best-of-ct…
Well , where is Edibles on University for God’s sake ? We have been around forever ! Check it out. Also Jim’s on Winton Road North as well as on East Main are great for diner food . Ellison’s on East Main and Winton has. undergone structural changes and changes to the menu . Thay have a full bar and simply amazing tasty food with excellent pricing . This town is so one horse is so many ways . Get out there and live it , be it do it . Do not be out in the stratta dissin on everybody else’s livley hood all the time either . If you have something to say that is real feedback find the owner of the eatery or business , the chef for example even the manager if they have their head in the game will discuss the feedback and hopefully make it right . Work it peeps don’t work people over .Kate Beckett 9/5/2013
Thank you City for your hard work and efforts to promote these hot spots in the Rochester scene. Looking forward to this years polls and winner announcements. We more folks to promote the #ROC like you do. As a local business owner (of www,Peppernutz.com ) – we need your support to drive folks into our economy.
I love all the sites that provide insight into good food in rochester. We all have our own idea about what is good. I personally agree that the majority of what people find “good” is pretty sad and unimaginative…but looking at family and friends ( and I love you all) its no surprise! Its great to find a creative place on any level…and any food well done a fab find. Jays gets points for being there 24/7 ,but as for the food…well its quick and edible. Edibles is awesome and the chef owner really puts passion into his food , and cares what his customers have to say…its a find. 2 vines still very good but has lost its creative edge. Rooneys ,sadly, for upscale dining is a no go for us anymore…it has slipped with new ownership, big time, especially at that pricepoint. For another great italian place try otto tommatos, east of victor village…great food with creative twists, generous portions (I can get several meals from most), great friendly family run ( not always great on precise reservation time..its small… but worth the wait). Would love to hear great dessert places…not easy to find these days! Keep up the suggestions folks!
These local businesses are all in each other’s pockets. What isn’t corrupted In Rochester.
