Theater is not just for grownups.
Besides the magical tradition of The
Nutcracker, during the fall there are other performances around town for
the family to enjoy. These are inexpensive, low-key, and sometimes interactive
shows — made just for the little ones.
Rochester Children’s Theatre
continues its residency at Nazareth College with The Miracle Worker, the story of one of the most famous
teacher-student pairs, Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller. Also at the Arts Center
at Nazareth College, the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will visit with Very Eric Carle, a puppet show that
stages three Eric Carle stories.
And there’s a new venture on the
children’s theater scene: TYKEs (Theater Young Kids Enjoy). The group is
performing at the Auditorium Center’s little upstairs theater, UpStage3. They
start this fall with a musical retelling of Rapunzel and continue with Toddler Tales,
interactive stagings of the Peter Rabbit and
The Three Billy Goats Gruff stories.
Next year they’ll bring the Catskill Puppet Theater, who will stage The Willow Girl (pictured).
