Remember that New Year’s Resolution to model a healthy, active
lifestyle for your kids? GeneseeCountryVillage
and Museum makes it easy with two family-friendly outdoor events on Sunday,
January 7.
During “Skiing in the Village,” from 1 to 4 p.m., your family
can cross-country ski, snowshoe, or hike along many of the streets in the 19th-century
village. Although the historic buildings are closed for the winter, the broad
range of architectural styles can be more readily appreciated minus the distractions
of foliage and large crowds. This event will not be cancelled for a lack of
snow. It just means everyone will be walking, in the time-honored 19th-century
tradition.
“Buds & Bark” is a short hike appropriate for ages 6 and
up, beginning at 2 p.m. at GeneseeCountryMuseum’s
NatureCenter. Over the course of 60 to 90
minutes, a naturalist will teach participants how to identify trees including
hickory, oak, and maple by examining buds, bark, and twigs. You can tell you’re
someplace old-timey when they’re using the mnemonic
device “madcap horse” to teach you stuff. Roy G. Biv

Adult admission for either program is $4,
kids 4 to 16 are $3. It’s free for kids 3 and under and for museum members. Ski
rental is $10, snow shoes are $5. Rentals available on a
