It’s the final countdown!
During the months of August and September, THOUSANDS of Rochesterians took the Best of Rochester 2014 Primary Ballot. They told us their picks for the best people, places, and things in Rochester. We counted them up, got the Top 4 in each category, and that’s what you’ll find in the Best of Rochester 2014 Final Ballot.
(NOTE: The Top 4 in each category — five or more in case of a tie — were determined solely by reader votes; City Newspaper had absolutely no say whatsoever in what makes the Final Ballot.)
VOTE NOW in the Final Ballot (make sure to vote in at least 40 categories for your ballot to count); voting will continue until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 17.
Then check back on Wednesday, October 29, for City Newspaper’s annual Best of Rochester 2014 to find out who will be named this year’s Best of Rochester!
This article appears in Sep 17-23, 2014.

Error: Frankie for Best Barista has worked at Boulder Coffee for this whole year, not Java’s.
Thank you for pointing that out, Annabelle. We have corrected the mistake. Sorry about that!
she works in the Javas coffee truck
It is true, she has been working both Boulder Coffee in store and the Java’s Coffee Truck (not Java’s Cafe in store)
When did javas start roasting? Should that be Boulder/Club Java?
Looking at this ballot it has become clear the only thing to do is this town is go to Wegmans…
Also want to point out that Java’s does not roast coffee. they are merchants of “fine” coffee.
I think it is in bad taste and disrespectful to list the death of Officer Pierson in a category on this contest. This was possibly the worst tragedy Rochester has ever seen, and while his family continues to grieve, should we really be listing this on a contest to vote? Please take it down
Take the Pierson thing down- its in reaaallllly bad taste.
As a human being, I’m offended by the notion that the death of Officer Pierson is “possibly the worst tragedy Rochester has ever seen.” Honestly, what world are you people living in?
How is there no Best Chef Category???
I would love to see the best of rochester voting rolled out over a longer period of time or split up into different sections. It is pretty overwhelming to vote for over 100 different categories, but if you launched each section on its own and then released all the tallies at the party I think it would be more manageable.
City has received several comments and questions about the inclusion into our poll of the coverage of slain officer Daryl Pierson. The nomination is located in our Local News Story category. Officer Pierson’s death is without a doubt a tragedy, and one that is still being felt and discussed in Rochester.
Our annual reader’s poll is driven solely by readers, and in our first round of balloting, readers submit the nominations. Those that received the most nominations are included in our final poll. City operates only as tabulator and gatekeeper to make sure the final nominations fit within the correct categories.
The coverage of officer Pierson’s death was our highest nominated submission for Local News Story, by a considerable margin. Coverage of the event was broad and pronounced for nearly two weeks, and it was one of the most significant events that occurred this year. Our readers called for its inclusion in the final poll, and because of its noteworthy nature, we’ve left the story in the poll but have changed the category title to “Most Significant Local News Story.
if your business is nominated, how to you print out the promotional material to display?
I know that the voting is over but I can’t even see the ballot anymore. Is there a way to do so?
Hi Rachel, the final ballot is still running. It should appear when you tap the “Click Here” link within the above story. If you have already taken the poll, though, it will not show up, but will say, “Thank you for completing City Newspaper’s Best of Rochester survey.”
i will laugh if we lose to rochester insomniac for #87 best podcast but i wish everyone good luck regardless. glad to be nominated. thanks again to everyone who voted us in! (undertheskin,tv)
it kills me the way the voting goes for only certain places I run a business on East Avenue and have tried for years to get into your ballot 4 votes Irun Monster Hots on East Avenue 9 yearsand I will throw down with any of these other hot dog joints blindfolded taste test
Utter Clutter AND Greenovation shouldn’t have been able to take up two spaces under thrift. After all Utter Clutter operates under the auspice of Greenovation at this time. That’s like double stacking for nominations. You should have had another option like Tombs or Ruly’s. That would have been more fair.
I was wondering if we were supposed to be notified of being in the top four in a categorie? I found out a bit late that I had reached the final ballot and am wondering if I did win, would be contacted? Thanks for any info!
