The 2015 Best of Rochester survey is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. Check City’s October 28 issue on stands or online for the final results!
It’s time to revisit the Flower City.
We’re all guilty of it: sticking to our favorites. We all
have our go-to restaurants and hangouts, our favorite bands and performers, and
even our favorite stores. It’s simply easier to stick with what you know.
But Rochester is a big city, with plenty of great people,
places, and things. It’s just waiting to be discovered.
In the first round of City Newspaper’s annual Best of
Rochester readers’ poll we asked what it was that you would want to tell a
newcomer about our city, or even, what it was that your neighbor should know
about in order to see Rochester with a new perspective.
Thousands of people voted in the open-ended primary ballot,
which ran from August 26 to September 18. We took the top four vote-getters in
each category (five or more if there was a tie) and compiled this final ballot.
(NOTE: The finalists were determined solely by reader votes. City Newspaper had
no say whatsoever in what people, places, or businesses made the final ballot.)
We want readers to use these suggestions as a travel guide
of sorts to the city. So before you cast your final vote, take some time to
explore and consider the suggestions of your fellow Rochesterians.
Is that really the best sushi you’ve had in the city? If you
were entertaining an out-of-towner, would that location really summarize Rochester?
Have you learned the name of the bartender or barista that made your drink?
There’s a lot to see, and a lot of opportunities for
adventure. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find something special.
Voting for the final ballot closed Friday,
October 16, at 5 p.m. Check back on Wednesday, October 28, to find out who will
be named the Best of Rochester 2015.
This article appears in Sep 23-29, 2015.

The best!!!
Love!!! Great show great music!!!! The BEST!!
Why is there no ‘best bookstore’?
No Richmonds Tavern? I mean we only win wing competitions all the time, known for chicken wings, won 1st place in the Cluck Crawl last year which is all the best wing places, and voted on by actual wing enthusiasts. We were also featured in a documentary called The great American chicken wing hunt, about all the best wing spots in upstate NY. Nothing against Marks Pizzeria, or Distillery or Jeremiahs….but no Park Bench even? Ocallaghans? Dinosaur? Firehouse saloon? L&M Lanes? ..Places KNOWN for wings??!!!!
Michael – agree it’s a shame Richmond’s isn’t on there, but much like “real” elections in the city, a lot of the contest is in the primary, not the general!
As we mentioned in the introduction above: the Best of Rochester poll is a readers’ poll. All of the finalists were determined by readers during our primary balloting. City simply tallied the votes to find the top four vote-getters.
Thomas – Yes agreed, I have never heard one person mention Marks as a favorite wing spot in my life, and I own a chicken wing bar and talk to people about wings allllll the time. Windjammers is legit though. Thomas go thecluckcrawl.com and get tickets for this years event, were going for back to back wins!!
Limda’s NY Pizzeria…best in Roc.
No best local retail clothing stores this year?
Stoneyard needs to be on this list in the future!
Why no Best Pilates Studio in Rochester?
There really needs to be a write in option. Most places I’d select aren’t listed.
Chet, keep an eye out for the primary ballot survey (which ran this year on August 26 to September 18). That’s an open submission survey where anyone can write in their suggestions for the top 4.
Also, thank you all for your suggestions for new categories (bookstore, local retail clothing, and pilates class); we’ll give those consideration next year.
I wanted to comment on the Hispanic salon in Rochester NY. I wanted to vote for Isla Del Encanto beauty Salon / Barber Shop at it new location 3355 Lake Ave to serve our public live the new location n the cutting style thank u for a wonderful experience
The list should be named City Newspaper’s Most Popular of Rochester. This is a ballot count–popularity–not a quality–the best–distinction.
