ART | 'Art of the Book' 

Artists have long been challenging and disrupting the "book" concept. The Central Library's "Art of the Book" exhibit, now in its 7th year, is displaying dozens of works by artists from across the US and Canada that reinterpret the traditional relationship between paper and ink, from beautifully and intricately designed artist books to completely deconstructed works — like Webster artist Karen Hill's "Too Late," depicting a mourning figure kneeling at a large tree and a seated angel looking on from the side. The juried exhibit this year was judged by Amelia Hugill-Fontanel, associate curator at the Cary Graphic Arts Collection at RIT, and Rochester book artist Rachael Gootnick.

"The Art of the Book" is on display through Monday, January 8, at the Rundel Memorial Building's Harold Hacker Gallery, 115 South Avenue. Normal library hours are Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission. 428-7300; libraryweb.org.
