ART | Jordan Seefried's "Curtains"

Rochester-based artist Jordan Seefried creates minimalist, often gritty artwork that incorporates elegant mark making with industrial detritus. His latest body of work, "Curtains," opens on Friday, March 24, at The Yards (50-52 Public Market). "The show is the last letters my father wrote in the hospital while in and out of sedation," Seefried says. "Being aware of his life coming to an end led to a sense of urgency to communicate. There is no editing with these notes. These slivers of his final moments have been immortalized in these letters, leaving them sacred to me."

Seefried projected his father's notes onto large bedsheets, ranging in sizes from 5 feet to 8 feet. His work will be accompanied by a looped soundscape created by Seefried and Philadelphia-based artist Nathan Cochran.

A reception for "Curtains" will be held on Friday, March 24, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., featuring tunes by CHREATH after the reception. The show will be viewable during open hours at The Yards, from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. Admission is free.
