THEATER | ‘Annie’

The Broadway musical "Annie" has been a pop culture mainstay for nearly four decades: The show has been continually produced around the world; you've probably seen one of the three (yeah, 1982, 1999, and 2014) movie adaptations; and the songs "Tomorrow" and "It's a Hard Knock Life" (thanks, Jay-Z) have been hits in their own right.

The Rochester Association of Performing Arts opened its main stage season last weekend with the popular musical about the optimistic red-headed orphan looking around New York City for her parents. "Annie," which runs through Sunday, November 26, features Lea Mancarella in the title role, and Sara Reynolds — who played Annie on a national tour of the show in the 1980's — as Miss Hannigan. Craig Deisering is Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, and Caroline Nielson plays Grace Farrell. Judith Ranaletta directs.

"Annie" continues Friday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, November 25, and Sunday, November 26, at 2 p.m., at Kodak Center for Performing Arts, 200 West Ridge Road. $29.50-$49.50, with discounts for seniors, students, and kids 12 and under. A portion of the proceeds will go to the nonprofit Children Awaiting Parents. 254-0073; rapatheatre.org.
