THEATER | 'Rhinoceros'

As part of their 2018-19 season, longstanding community theater company Bread & Water will present Eugene Ionesco's oft-studied, rarely performed "Rhinoceros." The 1959 avant-garde drama tells the story of a small town in provincial France where the citizens are slowly transforming into rhinoceroses, and a sole inhabitant, Bérenger, is left observing as the town's social order is trampled. While Ionesco's work has been classified as a post-World War II commentary on the rise of Fascism and Nazism; Bread & Water will interpret the work for a modern audience.

"Rhinoceros" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at Bread & Water Theatre, 172 West Main St. Tickets start at $8. 538-9684; breadandwatertheatre.org.
