Rochester singer-songwriter Jon Lewis has mastered the art of catchiness. Drenched in sunshine, "Exquisite Corpse" is an enjoyable set of smooth, mid-tempo rock and pop that defies you to keep your toes from tapping.

Lewis's laid-back voice is easy on the ears, characterized by the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve, indie sensitivity that make the vocals of Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard so attractive. Lewis's words seem to invite the listener to reconnect — with him, with friends nearby, with anyone who's feeling the love — set to a dreamy soundtrack that will resonate with "classic rock" fans of the Neil Young variety.

"Exquisite Corpse" is somewhat diminished by stylistic repetition. The first half of the album does little to differentiate itself from one song to the next. The album rewards the patient listener, however, and comes into its own with the sweetly seductive "All Nighter." Other highlights include the rich, retro harmonies on "Window," the subtle intensity on "Spotlights," and the crunchy romance of "Take What You Need."
