CLASSICAL | Bach's "St. Matthew Passion"

There is perhaps no vocal work more significant in the classical repertoire than Johann Sebastian Bach's "St. Matthew Passion." An unparalleled example of Bach's genius, it features the composer's quintessential sense of symmetry, rhythmic synchronicity, and glorious harmonic tension. Under the direction of conductor David Chin, the Voices Chamber Choir and Orchestra — along with bass Cody Müller as Jesus and tenor Pablo Bustos as the Evangelist — will perform the oratorio depicting Christ's suffering. The somber, compelling narrative is supplemented by 12 hymns and devotional passages. This Voices performance may be the ideal concert option for the Lenten season.

Voices Chamber Choir and Orchestra will present "St. Matthew Passion" on Saturday, March 25, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 111 North Chestnut Street. 7 p.m. $25 general; $10 students. 454-3367; erchoirs.org/voices1.
