CLASSICAL | 'Mozart String Quintets' 

Publick Musick winds up its season this weekend by performing two Mozart string quintets: One in C Major and the other in E-flat Major. It sounds like a modest program, but it's not. These are two of Mozart's greatest masterpieces for chamber ensemble, meaning two of his greatest works, period — meaning two of anybody's greatest works, period. The viola was Mozart's preferred string instrument, and none of his music reflects that love more than his string quintets. And nothing enhances the mellow beauty of the music more than the soft-grained sounds of period string instruments — to be played here by violinists Theresa Salomon and Boel Gidholm, violists Daniel Elyar and Alissa Smith, and cellist Christopher Haritatos. And due to a 2018 Challenge America grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Publick Musick is giving two additional, free performances of this program in Dansville and Wyoming.
