POP | Zigtebra

Zigtebra has a way of mellowing the heart with its deep, trance-like soundscapes and danceable love anthems. This Chicago-based, lo-fi pop duo met in an LGBTQ dance troupe and began to write and play shows together. After embarking on a 120-day tour in 2017, Zigtebra made a creative pact to release one new song and music video every month of the year, including its "Sparkle Tip" EP. Singer Emily Rose has an airy and youthful tone that is cheerful with a sense of desire and longing. Multi-instrumentalist Joe Zeph sings backing harmonies and joins Rose in unison during more climactic moments. Using a variety of fun, light-hearted synth textures and catchy melodies, Zigtebra creates attention-grabbing arrangements that keep the listener hooked from start to finish.

Zigtebra will perform with Elephant in the Room and Beef Gordon on Thursday, July 19, at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. 9 p.m. $10. bugjar.com; zigtebra.com.
