BreadMachine announces new game ‘Slam Land’
Rochester-based game developer BreadMachine today officially announced its new game “Slam Land” — what they’re calling a “couch-competitive slam dunking brawler,” where you must slam-dunk the other player in an attempt to impress a seemingly gentle-faced, stoic, blue giant. The game features a completely illustrated style, with bright colors overlayed with watercolor-like textures. Instead of […]
Exhibit Review: “The Art of Video Games” at Everson Museum
Are video games art? Noted film critic Roger Ebert went on record firmly saying no, they aren’t. But if you are among the Entertainment Software Association’s estimated 58 percent of Americans who play games, you might disagree with Ebert’s stance on the matter. “The Art of Video Games,” curated by Chris Melissinos, founder of Past […]
Video Game Review: Super Mario 3D World
With Sony and Microsoft both unveiling shiny new consoles this month, and their accompanying media blitzes, Nintendoโs struggling Wii U needs a hit this holiday season in the worst way. It needs a console seller, and given that the new editions of Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are still months away (at least), Nintendo has […]
Video Game Review: Pokemon X/Y
You canโt make everyone happy. And when it comes to Pokemon games โ especially the most recent Nintendo 3DSโs iterations โPokemon Xโ and โPokemon Yโ โ it rings very true indeed. Even the game (I played Y for this review) seems to realize this in its moments of meta awareness. Instead of starting out your […]
Video Game Review: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX
No rose-colored nostalgia glasses here: I never played the original โKingdom Hearts.โ Well, thatโs not entirely true. At various points when the game first game out, I attempted it, but I donโt believe I ever made it off Destiny Island, the gameโs opening world. I can vividly remember how excited I was for the game; […]
Video Game Review: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Sometimes the title says it all. “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” for the Nintendo 3DS, is the latest entry in Nintendoโs “Animal Crossing” series, and has improved upon nearly every aspect of its predecessors, creating not only a near-perfect gaming experience, but also soaring over the bar of what I expected the game to be.

Video Game Preview: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U/3DS)
Capcomโs โMonster Hunterโ series is quite the behemoth. A hit series in Japan, but still somewhat under the radar in the West, โMonster Hunter 3 Ultimateโ is an updated version of the 2010 Wii game โMonster Hunter Tri.โ
Video Game Review: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
“Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon,” developed by Next Level Games (the studio behind โPunch-Out!!โ for Wii, โMario Strikers Chargedโ) is the sequel to 2001โs GameCube launch title, “Luigi’s Mansion.” Everybody’s favorite green-clad plumber reluctantly returns to the spotlight after an evil entity shatters the Dark Moon, which was keeping the peaceful ghosts of Evershade Valley in check. The crazy and kooky Professor E. Gadd calls again for Luigi’s aid, equipping him with the Poltergust 5000 (an upgrade from the previous titlesโ Poltergust 3000), which allows him to stun, chase, and vacuum up the tricksy ghosts that are terrorizing the valley.
