If you’re an early riser with an appetite, head to Webster, where Golden Boys is undoubtedly the sweet spot for breakfast in summer.
Dining Reviews
Hearty, fast fare at El Cuchifrito
Named for the Puerto Rican fried fare on its menu, El Cuchifrito opened on Norton Street in June, but already feels like a neighborhood staple that’s been there for years. The fast comfort food is great for when you want a quick but hearty bite.
Rocco owner opens seafood dining bar
Rella, which opened on Monroe Avenue in June, is a casual but refined seafood-centric dining bar, where you can watch the kitchen’s every move. There are no tables, and no waiters. Instead, the cooks do double duty, deftly plating and serving dishes while chatting with the diners just feet away.
Sweet treats and keto cakes at Tu Amor
Tu Amor Cakery goes beyond cupcakes with sweet and savory offerings, from spinach artichoke turnovers to puff pastries in a variety of flavors such as pineapple cheesecake or guava.
Beyond phแป at Tony’s Diner & Vietnamese Cuisine
The original plan was to serve breakfast food in the morning and Vietnamese food in the afternoon and evening. More people came for the Vietnamese food so owner Anthony Lam dropped the diner fare. But it’s more than phแป and bรกnh mรฌ sandwiches.
Stingray SushiFusion gets a brick-and-mortar on South Ave
Rochester-based food truck Stingray SushiFusion has offered a blend of Latin and Japanese cuisine since 2013. Just recently its owners Radhames and Josรฉ Veras joined the ranks of other local food trucks who have expanded their biz to brick-and-mortar joints.
Chick’N Out Thursdays at Blossom Road Pub
Rochester’s newest fried chicken joint isn’t a brick-and-mortar (yet) but does pop-up nights around Rochester, including its Thursday night stint at Blossom Road Pub (5 p.m. until sold out!)
Jines, rain or shine
Rochester mainstay Jines offers a wide-ranging and inventive menu of tasty homemade food at reasonable prices (including Greek specialties and breakfast all day), as well as outdoor seating on the prime people-watching corner of Park Avenue and Berkeley Street.
International treasure at Nepali Kitchen
Nepali Kitchen’s food is rich and filling, marrying the cooking styles of China with flavor portfolios from India. Bring a friend or two, especially if you get the Nepali Thali sets, which (unless you’re ravenous) are sharing dishes.
The spice life at Szechuan Opera
The chefs patterned the menu after cuisine from China’s Sichuan province. You can still get the Chinese food that most Americans are accustomed to, but if you feel a bit more adventurous, Szechuan Opera offers a menu of more traditional, spicy dishes.
Neighbors & students gather at TinRoof
TinRoof is a neighborhood pub-college bar hybrid where everyone is welcome. The food menu is essentially pub fare plus Deli Sandro’s menu, which is a staple appreciated by UR students and West Side residents alike.
Flavorful comfort foods at La Olla Criolla
Though La Olla Criolla is a cafeteria-style venue, it’s a family restaurant, and they cook and serve the Creole fare like you’re at home for dinner.
